12 members of Beverley Eggs made their way on 26th May from Beverley to Withernsea to take part in the annual Humberside Eggs Open. (And no, we still can't agree on the best way to get there!) Representative teams also came from: Withernsea, Sutton Park, Ganstead Park, Hainsworth Park, Hessle and Hornsea. While the course was in very good condition, heavy rain showers managed to wreck many rounds. The deluges were spread throughout the day so most teams faced the same problem but at different times. You sensed at times the grass growing under your feet in response to the welcome (to all except those on the course) rain.
Beverley came 4th in the team competition with the Sutton team coming out first just ahead of Hainsworth. The pairing of Allan Lamb and Bryn Jones played wonderfully (assisted by a buggy) to come second in the pairs competition scoring 41 points, two behind the winners from Sutton Park. The day finished with the usual good serving of fish and chips that is one of the treats of playing at Withernsea.
