28 matches were played against 14 clubs. We also played 2 matches with Beverley Ladies section and put out 12 players in the Withernsea Humberside EGGS Open.

32 different players played in the EGGS matches. Two players (Barrie Reuben and Graham Grimes) played in 28 out of the 31 matches. Your captain played in 27 matches. Eleven members played in 20 or more matches.

A full team was selected on each occasion and there was only one instance of a player not turning up. Reserves who ended up not playing were available for 17 of the games; on three occasions there were 3 reserves; on five occasions there were 2 reserves and on nine occasions there was just 1 reserve. 14 different members acted as a reserve over the year; one member was a reserve on 5 occasions – the remainder were reserves 3 times or less. Signed-up reserves represented less than 5% of those wanting to play.

There were 19 withdrawals after the match sheet was published. It is my subjective impression that our team selection process works better than in most clubs. Others seem to have more problems getting a team together even when they have more EGGS members.

All players who played more than one match took part in at least two home and two away matches and generally the numbers signing up for home and away matches were fairly well balanced. In only one case was the difference between away and home matches more than three, and this is largely explicable by the member's injury at the time when the bulk of home matches were scheduled.

The EGGS generally enjoyed good weather for their matches this year avoiding any significant rain in all but one case. The initial match against Kirkbymoorside was washed-out but we were invited back a fortnight later and so were able to complete a full match (and enjoy their excellent hospitality again).

In addition to the standard fixtures, we enjoyed an away day at Immingham where we experienced a good course in good weather with excellent hospitality. We also went to Bridlington Links earlier in the year where although the weather was good the course was rather wet.

EGGS members also took part in a number of invitational competitions during the year. Bryn Jones and Allan Lamb came 2nd in the 4BBB Humberside EGGS competition at Withernsea. Bryn Jones and Barrie Reuben won the Allerthorpe EGGS Invitational partnering a team from Allerthorpe. Bryn Jones, Pete Robertson, Allan Lamb and Steve Birch won the East Yorkshire EGGS Alliance trophy in an annual competition among local EGGS teams played this year at Burstwick. Two teams of those who played in the Awayday at Immingham in July played in the inaugural Mayflower Trophy AmAm invitational competition held in November; the team of Bryn Jones, Allan Lamb, Brian Lamb and David Bowden scored well coming 2nd by just two points. EGGS members also played in senior competitions at Hornsea and Scarborough South Cliff and participated successfully in inter-club competitions.

The winners of the EGGS competitions completed in 2011 were: Harry Johnson – Dave Cattle; Chub Boyce – Jim Sharp; Eddy Sharpe Trophy – Brian Shaw; Bob McFarlane – Roy Simpson; Credit Crunch – Roy Simpson.

Several new members joined the EGGS during the year and their contributions enhanced our performance on the course and our enjoyment in the bar. Brian Barmby, Vic Meek and Colin Rowe retired from active golf earlier in the year. In September we sadly lost Mali Johnson who'd been a stalwart member of the EGGS for many years. I still half expect Mali's car to come skidding into the car park at 8.51 am on Monday or Thursday as we are trying to work out how many teams we can put together. What a great guy he was!

The EGGS have continued to support the administration of the registration desk and the results service for the two Senior Open AmAms run by the club. I know our work is appreciated and it is important that as many members as possible play a part in these events to support your captain and your club. A couple of hours are all that is needed.

We have also had good service from our caterers who in spite of our teasing manage to win consistently good reports from our visitors.

I'd like to thank all the members for their support during the year and the special support received from the EGGS committee members including my vice-captain, Peter Robertson.

I wish the 2012 captain and vice-captain the best of fortune for the coming year which I hope they will enjoy as much as I have enjoyed this year.
