The Beverley team of Bryn Jones and Barrie Reuben were winners by one shot of the EGGS Invitational Competition arranged by Allerthorpe Golf Club on 13th October 2011. The format was AmAm Stableford played off full handicap and visiting teams were each paired with an Allerthorpe pairing drawn at random. The Beverley team were drawn to play with the Allerthorpe pairing of Shaun Clark and Dave Genney.
The Allerthorpe course was in good condition in spite of the deluge of the previous day that caused the postponement of the Xmas Open at Beverley and five teams scored 85 or more points. The Beverley team contributed well to the overall score of 88 points including three-pointers on the first and last holes. Barrie parred the last hole (the par 5 15th hole). But on the same hole, he also managed to smash his Skycaddie with a hybrid club while playing his 2nd on the fairway when he over-balanced after hitting the ball.
The match was followed by a nice meal of lasagne and a dessert of chocolate, banana and walnut sponge. Congratulations to Bryn and Barrie.
