The trophy is awarded to the player with the highest points score over three rounds played in December, January and February. The highest points score for each hole over the three rounds is used in the calculation of the total. Not every round needs to be played. Bob McFarlane was a former Captain of the Eggs.

Played over the year from January to December. A very, very cheap prize is awarded by the captain to the player ranked highest in the EGGS informal individual Stableford competitions which are played during the year. Each player starts the year with an EGGS handicap which is their current club handicap. The winning player in each competition has 3 points deducted from his EGGS handicap, and the runner-up has 2 points deducted. The deduction only applies if there are at least six players on any one day. The overall winner is the player who has had the most points deducted – relatively and absolutely.
