2011 Interclub Season Review

The 8 Inter Club matches saw 30 members play at least one game. We played 4 matches at home and 4 away and as is usually the case we won all 4 at home but lost three and halved one away. The detailed results are attached to this article.
We planned to play 10 matches, but Hainsworth Park were unable to fix a date for their game at Beverley and the Army never returned my many calls. All bar one match was played in 4BBB format between 2 clubs. We played one triangular match verses Bridlington Links and Burstwick.
Traditionally the Inter Club matches are played with between 12 and 16 players per team and to Beverley's credit we have never had a problem raising a full team. No other team has been able to put out a team of 16 this year – two played 14 players, three played 12, one played 10 and one just 8. The triangular match required just 8 players per club and seems to be becoming increasingly popular - 3 ball matches are played in individual stableford format with the 8 scores totalled to produce a score per club. Everyone who took part at Burstwick enjoyed the format, however with 8 players required and a number of regular Beverley players would be disappointed at not getting a game.
Inter Club matches introduce players to other courses and their members in a social format which includes dinner afterwards. All members are welcome to take part with handicap not an issue. Everyone wants to win their game but it should not be a matter of life or death?
Thanks to everyone who took part in any way, including those members who gave me their names in case we were short at the last minute. Thanks also to Alan, June, Denise and Charlotte who provided us with such good food.
Next year's vice captain who is formally identified (?) on 21st September will manage the 2012 matches.
